Bio
Konsta Luomala
b. 2005, Oulu
As a child, I was an inventor. I built, dismantled, and tested what happens when you put different things together. Today, I do the same with films. A camera has been my way of making sense of the world for almost ten years, starting from my very first playful video experiments. That same experimental drive is still visible in the way I work: I often direct, shoot, and edit my pieces myself.
My work sits at the intersection of arthouse cinema and pop culture. I am drawn to small, bizarre, and genuine everyday moments that feel like a matter of life and death to the characters, no matter how insignificant they might seem from the outside. I want to bring the energy of entertainment into a space that takes itself seriously, leaving room for the viewer to connect the dots on their own.
Alongside filmmaking, I study at Oulu Business School. It has made me think about everything invisible that surrounds a piece of art: expectations, imagery, context, and interpretation. I am fascinated by how much of the experience is created not just by the work itself, but by how and where it is encountered.
I am 20 years old. My recent projects include the short film Väkivallaton (2023). During high school, I was mentored by director Juho Kuosmanen, and I am currently part of Kaleva Media's Spektri artist program during Oulu 2026, the European Capital of Culture year.
